- During the Revolutionary War, the Congress decided that a flag is needed to represent the United Colonies

- It has 13 alternating red and white stripes, with a red stripe at the top and bottom.
- The Blue part in the upper left is called the 'Union'
- The Union is to be 7 stripes tall
- There are 50 stars in the union representing the states of the US
- The stars are staggered in 11 horizontal rows
