00:0-1 | Okay , Food is super important . Super important .
00:04 | It's a big part of your day , right ?
00:06 | You need food to live , right ? It's very
00:10 | important . You know , if you've seen many of
00:12 | our videos that we love carrots , carrots are a
00:15 | great example of a food that can give us lots
00:18 | of energy that can help us through the day .
00:21 | Food isn't just for people , here's a dog eating
00:25 | a treat that looks yummy . You know , for
00:28 | a dog , you know , fish have to eat
00:31 | . And so do bears look at this bear eating
00:34 | berries . It's got a funny a bear eating berries
00:38 | . Uh that's really kind of funny , enjoy your
00:42 | berries . Mr bear , Sorry . It's you know
00:44 | , enjoy keep eating , keep eating . Did you
00:47 | know , even plants like trees need food ? Did
00:51 | you know that isn't that cool ? In fact ,
00:54 | all living things need food . All living things need
01:01 | food . But how do they get that food ?
01:04 | Mm hmm . That's a good question . That's what
01:07 | this video is all about . To find out .
01:11 | How living things get food . You will be learning
01:14 | about something called the food chain . Can you say
01:18 | that with us ? The food chain ? Yes .
01:22 | The food chain . Now a food chain isn't an
01:28 | actual chain of food . Like a long chain of
01:31 | carrots . Okay . That's not what the food chain
01:34 | is . Even though that would be really cool .
01:37 | The food chain explains how living things get the food
01:41 | they need . The food chain . There are different
01:47 | parts of the food chain . We are going to
01:49 | learn about the different parts of the food chain to
01:52 | see how living things get food . Uh huh .
01:57 | First we are going to learn about producers . Producers
02:01 | make up the first part of the food chain .
02:05 | Producers are living things that make their own food .
02:09 | If a living thing creates its own food . It
02:12 | is a producer . We are surrounded by producers everywhere
02:18 | we go . Because every plant is a producer ,
02:22 | yep . Every plant in the entire world is a
02:28 | producer . That grass , it's a producer , it
02:32 | makes its own food . Those trees , they are
02:36 | producers , they make their own food , these flowers
02:41 | , they are producers , they make their own food
02:47 | . Now , wait , how can plants make their
02:49 | own food ? You never see a plan in the
02:51 | kitchen saying , hey , I'm gonna cook something real
02:54 | fast . I need to make some of my own
02:56 | food . So can you tell me where the pans
02:59 | are ? No plants make their own food through a
03:04 | process called photosynthesis , wow , that's a big word
03:09 | . Photosynthesis , photosynthesis is amazing . Plants use energy
03:15 | from the sun to make their own food . That's
03:19 | why plants need sunlight . So plants make their own
03:22 | food , but they don't cook or bake , They
03:25 | get energy from the sun to make their own food
03:28 | photosynthesis . You know , that's one of the reasons
03:33 | you'll never see plants shopping for groceries to get food
03:37 | . You'd have to tell the plant , hey don't
03:40 | you use energy from the sun to make your own
03:42 | food Using photosynthesis . It's nice to meet you and
03:45 | everything , but you need to make your own food
03:48 | , you know using sunlight , water and air ,
03:51 | you're a producer . So when the sun is shining
03:56 | on plants , just think of how the sunlight is
04:00 | helping the plants make their own food using photosynthesis .
04:04 | That is how plants are producers , they make their
04:08 | own food producers make their own food . Okay ,
04:14 | pull it together . Right let's let's get off the
04:17 | sad music . There's nothing sad about photosynthesis or sunlight
04:22 | . Okay , where were we ? Oh yeah ,
04:27 | it's time to see the next part of the food
04:29 | chain consumers . Uh huh , consumers . Now ,
04:37 | consumers have to look outside of themselves for food .
04:41 | They cannot create their own food using photosynthesis as producers
04:46 | can . As you might have guessed we humans are
04:49 | consumers . We don't make our own food using photosynthesis
04:53 | . Now there are farmers who grow food cooks who
04:56 | make different foods . But we are all consumers .
04:59 | We didn't make our own food within ourselves . We
05:03 | eat the foods in our environment or around us that
05:06 | help us stay healthy and strong . Mm . And
05:10 | we aren't alone . You know ? Fish are consumers
05:14 | ? Uh huh . Cats are consumers . Birds are
05:17 | consumers . Animals are consumers . It's interesting . There
05:25 | are different types of consumers . There are herbivores which
05:29 | are consumers that eat only plants . There are carnivores
05:34 | which are consumers that only eat meat . And there
05:39 | are omnivores that eat a combination of plants and meat
05:44 | . Okay , let's see if we can remember this
05:47 | . All right , so herbivores stick to plants .
05:50 | That's what they eat . Carnivores eat meat and omnivores
05:55 | eat a combination . This will be fun . Can
06:00 | you guess what type of consumer a gorilla is ?
06:04 | What type of consumer is a gorilla ? Yeah .
06:12 | Gorillas are herbivores . They eat only plants . They
06:17 | love eating plants with leaves and enjoy bamboo as well
06:22 | . Gorillas are herbivores . They eat only plants .
06:26 | All right . Can you guess what type of consumer
06:30 | of frog is ? Mhm . What type of consumer
06:34 | is a frog ? Frogs are carnivores ? Yeah ,
06:41 | they only eat meat . They love eating insects ,
06:45 | worms and if they are big they can eat bigger
06:49 | creatures like mice , small snakes and more frogs are
06:55 | carnivores . They eat only meat . Hey ? What
07:00 | about us ? Humans ? We are considered omnivores .
07:04 | That means we have the ability to eat a combination
07:07 | of plants and meat . Just because we can eat
07:10 | a combination of the two . Doesn't mean we have
07:13 | to though . Many people around the world only eat
07:16 | plants . Many others around the world eat a combination
07:19 | of the two . But because we have the ability
07:21 | to eat both scientists consider us omnivores . Remember the
07:27 | bear from the beginning ? Bears are omnivores too .
07:30 | They like eating berries , but they also can eat
07:34 | meat . They eat a combination of plants and meat
07:38 | . They're omnivores . Okay , now we have come
07:43 | to a very interesting part of the food chain .
07:46 | D composers . D composers , can you say that
07:50 | with us ? D composers ? That's right , this
07:56 | might sound weird but D composers are living things that
07:59 | take apart dead animals . That's right . They take
08:03 | apart dead animals . Mhm . D composers have a
08:08 | very important job . They break down dead animals so
08:12 | that plants can get more nutrients from the soil .
08:17 | Some examples of D . Composers are fungi , worms
08:21 | and snails , but how do they take apart dead
08:25 | animals ? Well , D composers like to eat dead
08:28 | things in the case of fun Guy , they release
08:33 | stuff called enzymes which break down dead matter . And
08:37 | then the fun guy takes in the nutrients . You've
08:40 | probably seen . Fun guy before . Did you know
08:43 | that mushrooms are fun guy ? That's right . Oh
08:46 | no , that reminds me of a joke . Can
08:48 | I can I tell the joke ? I don't I
08:50 | don't know if I can resist that mushroom . Sure
08:53 | looks like a fun guy . Get it because mushrooms
08:58 | are fun guy who feel free to share with your
09:03 | friends . It's comedy gold . So D composers break
09:08 | down dead animals which helps the soil , the better
09:12 | soil helps the producers , which are plants , then
09:15 | consumers eat the producers , other consumers or both ,
09:19 | depending on what type of consumer they are . Then
09:22 | after the consumers die , the D . Composers break
09:26 | them down to help the soil and it starts all
09:29 | over again . It's like this chain , It's the
09:32 | food chain . Remember the parts of the food chain
09:37 | ? Our producers consumers and D . Composers . All
09:42 | living things need food and every living thing has its
09:45 | place in the food chain . Producers make their own
09:51 | food using photosynthesis consumers can't make their own food .
09:55 | They eat plants or meat or both , depending on
09:58 | what kind of consumer they R and D composers eat
10:02 | dead animals , bringing nutrients to the soil to help
10:05 | the producers . What a chain . The food chain
