02:31 | hear from you again . Well , that was awesome
02:36 | . Be sure and watch this video to the end
02:39 | to learn how you too , can be featured on
02:42 | one of our videos . Just like Nora Boas .
02:44 | Rishi , Miss Jessica's class in Ms Commodities class were
02:47 | featured on this video . So as we mentioned earlier
02:54 | today , we are going to learn about the units
02:57 | of time . Mhm . There are three main units
03:03 | of time in a day seconds , minutes and hours
03:08 | . A second is the smallest unit of time .
03:13 | It's so tiny a minute is a lot bigger than
03:17 | a second , and then an hour is even bigger
03:21 | . An hour is the biggest unit of time in
03:24 | a day . We're going to look at each of
03:29 | these individually , Okay ? It is going to be
03:34 | a great time . It's funny , right ? First
03:44 | , we're gonna learn about seconds . Mm . A
03:50 | second is the smallest unit of time . It's extremely
03:54 | short now , a fair warning to you . You're
03:57 | about to see some very cute animals that are going
03:59 | to help us understand just how long a second is
04:05 | . Mhm . Hey , what did we say ?
04:07 | We warned you the time that it takes this cute
04:12 | little dog to jump is a second . It's just
04:16 | like a moment . Boom . The dog jump swooped
04:20 | in the air for a second down . And you
04:23 | see how this dog is jumping over that pole ?
04:25 | Really cool . Great dog . It takes just a
04:28 | second to jump . That's the second . That's the
04:33 | sound . That's the second . Okay , Another cute
04:38 | animal . This is a cat and this cat is
04:41 | blinking . The time it takes to blink is a
04:45 | second not just for cats , for humans . Why
04:47 | don't you give it a try ? Go ahead and
04:50 | blink . Yeah , that's the second . Can you
04:53 | blink again ? That's another second . Can you blink
04:57 | again ? That's a second . It's so short .
05:01 | It's such a short amount of time . Could you
05:03 | blink again ? Okay , that will be the last
05:05 | time . Okay . It's a second . It's a
05:07 | second to blink . Oh , who doesn't love a
05:13 | good seal ? Here's the seal in the water Sang
05:18 | high by waving that wave takes just a second .
05:23 | Did you know when we say hi That takes a
05:26 | second to Why don't we give that a try ?
05:29 | Say the word high . Hi . Hi . That's
05:35 | a second high . That's a second high . Now
05:39 | I don't want you annoy people around you , but
05:42 | I want you to understand it just takes a second
05:44 | to say hi or to waive . Waving usually takes
05:49 | just a second . Yeah , on a clock seconds
05:56 | are shown with the thinnest line . It's also the
05:59 | line that moves the fastest because seconds are the shortest
06:03 | period of time . Now you might not realize this
06:10 | , but every unit of time has an abbreviation .
06:14 | An abbreviation is a short form of a word and
06:19 | seconds actually have two abbreviations . Mhm . Yeah .
06:25 | The abbreviations of seconds are sec or just the letter
06:31 | s . Here's an example . You could say one
06:35 | second or if you wanted to write it with an
06:38 | abbreviation , you could write one sec or just one
06:43 | s . Here's another example . Five seconds could be
06:50 | written five sec or five s . Now , you
06:54 | don't always have to do that . You don't always
06:56 | have to use an abbreviation . But if you want
06:59 | to abbreviate and make seconds shorter , you can just
07:02 | write five sec or five s . The final example
07:10 | 10 seconds can be written 10 sec or 10 s
07:15 | . Sec or s are abbreviations of the word seconds
07:22 | . Seconds are the shortest unit of time . Yeah
07:30 | . Next , we're gonna talk about minutes . Yeah
07:34 | , a minute is the next biggest unit of time
07:38 | after seconds . Now , how much bigger is a
07:41 | minute than a second ? Well , believe it or
07:46 | not , a minute is 60 seconds . 60 seconds
07:51 | . Sixties a lot . Now you might be wondering
07:53 | how much is 60 ? I'd love to see that
07:56 | . Well , look at this a lot . It's
08:01 | a lot . Sixties . A lot . A minute
08:04 | is 60 seconds Here's an example of something that takes
08:11 | about a minute . A little girl blowing Bubbles takes
08:14 | about a minute , about 60 seconds . For a
08:17 | while . She'll blow these bubbles and then she'll be
08:20 | done . She might spend a couple minutes where she
08:23 | might just spend a minute . It's not too long
08:26 | , but it's not too sure . It's a minute
08:30 | . This little boy's tired . Maybe he played for
08:33 | a long time , and he just wants to sit
08:35 | down for a minute . This is something that might
08:37 | take a minute , sitting down and just taking a
08:40 | break . It wouldn't be enough of a break to
08:43 | just take a second break , but a minute can
08:48 | help him . Rest . A minute is 60 seconds
08:51 | . It's enough time to take a break , to
08:53 | breathe for a while and then to go back to
08:56 | playing . Here's our final example of a minute .
09:00 | A little girl who's cuddling with her teddy bear .
09:04 | Maybe she named him Mr Perkins , and maybe she'll
09:07 | give him hugs every once in a while . But
09:09 | now she's taking her time to cuddle him for 60
09:14 | seconds a minute . Maybe she'll spend about a minute
09:17 | . A second would just be too short to hug
09:20 | , Mr Perkins , but cuddling for a minute .
09:23 | She would take a minute to do that on a
09:29 | clock . Minutes are shown with the longest line .
09:33 | So when you look at a clock the longest line
09:36 | called a hand on a clock that longest hand measures
09:40 | the minutes . Now remember , every unit of time
09:46 | has an abbreviation . And remember , an abbreviation is
09:50 | just a short form of a word . The abbreviation
09:58 | of minutes is men M I N men . Here's
10:03 | an example . One minute would be abbreviated one men
10:09 | , Look at this . 15 minutes would be abbreviated
10:14 | . Five men , 10 minutes would be abbreviated .
10:23 | 10 men a minute is the next biggest unit of
10:29 | time after seconds . The last unit of time we're
10:36 | looking at today are ours . Ours are the largest
10:41 | units of time in the day . In fact ,
10:44 | in a day there's only 24 of them , not
10:47 | many at all . Okay , so how long is
10:53 | an hour , exactly ? Well , an hour is
10:55 | 60 minutes . Do you remember how big the number
10:59 | 60 is , right ? Oh , lots of minutes
11:04 | . 60 minutes an hour is 60 minutes . Remember
11:08 | , a minute is 60 seconds . So it's a
11:11 | lot of time . Here's an example of an hour
11:15 | . This girl playing out in the snow . This
11:18 | girl would want to play out in the snow for
11:20 | like an hour . Right ? 60 minutes one minute
11:23 | wouldn't be enough playing out in the snow in one
11:26 | second . Well , one second is like high ,
11:29 | and that's the second . Remember , so an hour
11:32 | , 60 minutes . It's a good long time to
11:34 | play out in the snow . And that's how long
11:37 | this little girl might be playing outside in the snow
11:43 | . Oh , fun playing out in the water .
11:47 | That's awesome . This is so much fun . This
11:50 | little boy is probably going to want to play in
11:52 | the water for about an hour . Right ? One
11:55 | minute wouldn't belong to play in the water at all
11:58 | . Remember , one minute is only 60 seconds and
12:02 | one second Remember high . That's the second . So
12:05 | when hours . A good , long time to play
12:07 | out in the water to have a lot of fun
12:09 | and to get some really great exercise . Here's our
12:15 | final example of an hour . This little girl is
12:18 | taking a nap . A nap oftentimes takes an hour
12:23 | . One minute wouldn't be long enough for a really
12:26 | good nap . and one second . Well , you
12:29 | already know how long the second is . A second
12:31 | wouldn't do it all either and hours a good long
12:34 | time on the clock hours are shown with the thick
12:42 | short line and that's the line on the clock that
12:46 | moves the slowest . Because ours are so long now
12:53 | as you remember before , every unit of time has
12:57 | an abbreviation , and an abbreviation is a short form
13:02 | of a word . Okay , these kids already know
13:06 | this , okay ? And why is this penguin moving
13:08 | ? So the abbreviations of an hour our hr or
13:15 | just h Here's an example . One hour could be
13:19 | written one hr or one h now , five hours
13:27 | could be abbreviated five hr or five age and 24
13:34 | hours , which is how long a day is Could
13:37 | be abbreviated 24 hr or 24 age . Well ,
13:43 | there you have it . Those are the three main
13:46 | units of time in the day , seconds , minutes
13:50 | and hours . And now you understand them all .
13:52 | And I think it's time for this to be done
