I was ready for the competition this time. Last year during the kite flying competition, I was nervous and unprepared. I forgot my kite string and had to borrow one from the judges. Once I got my kite into the air, I didn't do a very good job of controlling it, and it crashed into another kite. The two kites were tangled together, and both the other flier and I were disqualified from the competition.

This year was different. I checked my kite for tears. It was perfect. I checked to make sure the kite string was tied to the kite tightly and was wound around the handle neatly. Check.

"Ready for the competition?" the judge asked me.
