Beatrice was so excited. A new well had just been opened in her village. This was truly a special day for her. She looked down and saw that her cup was sparkling with clean and cold water that she got from that well. She couldn’t believe that it was real! She had never seen water like this before. Slowly, she took a sip and it tasted so fresh. Her mother had always told her about the importance of water.
Beatrice used to get water from a ditch in her home. Also, they could walk for miles to reach other areas with water. The water wasn’t very clean in the stream. In fact, most of the time, the water had a putrid smell and was brown in color. Beatrice and her family knew it wasn’t acceptable but they didn’t have any choice. The water that they drank was unclean, making Beatrice feel sick often.
The water they mostly use is from streams, rivers, and lakes and is used for cooking, taking baths, and washing clothes. This water is contaminated with chemicals in the products they use and can cause diseases, such as typhus, cholera, dysentery, and malaria.
How did Beatrice get her water in the past compared to how she gets it now?
