GO BACK

With junk food becoming increasingly popular and families being on the go more than ever, kids and their parents need to know how to make healthier choices. It is important that children learn to make healthy choices from an early age. If children learn to make these choices it not only makes them healthy but also it keeps them in shape.

Staying in shape is one way of saying that someone makes wise decisions about what they eat, have active exercise routines, and is able to stay at a healthy weight. Staying in shape not only helps your body to work well, but you will feel better too. Who doesn’t want to feel well enough to enjoy fun activities with the people around us?

While parents are responsible for making wise choices too, there are many ways that kids can step up to the plate and take charge. Let’s start by talking about the types of foods that kids should eat. Sure, there are special occasions when a treat is in store, but fruits and vegetables should be a part of your daily foods, not cake and ice cream. Your body needs a variety of healthy foods. By giving your body a lot of different foods, it will be able to get the nutrients that it needs. Don’t be afraid to try new foods. You may not like everything that you try, but by trying new things, you will find more and more foods that you do like. Throughout each day, try to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables. Hopefully, out of those five you will be able to find two fruits and three vegetables to enjoy.

Now, that we have looked at some wise food choices, let’s take a look at what you should be drinking. Water and milk are always the best choices. There is nothing that quenches your thirst like a cold glass of water. Now, you may have often wondered why schools offer up cartons of milk. Truth is, milk is needed to help build strong bones because it contains calcium. Kids younger than 9 years old should drink 2 cups of milk per day. If milk isn’t your favorite thing to drink there are other ways to get the calcium that your body needs. Some great alternatives to introduce calcium into your diet are cheddar cheese and yogurt.
